Amid growing concerns about Tigran Gambaryan, the American detained Binance executive's worsening health condition in the Nigerian prison custody, some United States politicians have shown concern about his challenges, urging Joe Biden, the U.S. President, to push for his release from the West African nation.
Recall that in his last court appearance, on May 23, 2024, Gambaryan had collapsed when he attempted to step forward into the dock as ordered by the judge, resulting in a hearing postponement by about three weeks to ensure the best medical care for the sick executive, who is reportedly suffering from malaria and severe throat infection.
Nigerian Prison Authorities Flaunt Court Order
Despite the court order that Gambaryan should move to a medical facility endorsed by his lawyer for proper medical care, the prison authorities opted for a medical center around the Kuje correctional center.
According to prison authorities, they are preventing a repeat of what happened with Nadeem Anjarwalla earlier this year. Hence, the need to ensure that Gambaryan remains around the prison premises.
For context, Anjarwalla was arrested alongside Gambaryan earlier this year in February. However, he executed an escape plan that helped him flee the West African nation, compounding the strained relationship between the Nigerian government and Binance.
Immediate Action Is Crucial To Ensure Gambaryan's Safety And Life
According to a tweet making rounds in X by Eleanor Terrett, a Fox Business Journalist, the United States Congress Members, including Michael T McCaul, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman, had presented a signed letter to Joe Biden, urging for Gambaryan's release.

Notably, the letter presented to the U.S. president summarized the detained Binance executive ordeal with the Nigerian authorities, emphasizing the need to push for his release to prevent further entrapment of his fundamental right to freedom.
The concluding part of the letter read thus, "On behalf of Mr. Gambaryan, his family, and concerned Americans, we, the undersigned, urgently request and strongly encourage the transfer of his case to the Office of the Special President Envoy for Hostage Affairs. Mr. Gambaryan's health and well-being are in danger, and we fear for his life. Immediate action is essential to ensure his safety and preserve his life. We must act fast before it is too late."
