FIFA Collect will begin migrating its digital collectibles platform to the newly developed FIFA Blockchain on or after May 20, 2025, the organization announced. The transition marks a move away from the current Algorand-based system to an EVM-compatible blockchain designed to support long-term scalability and expanded features.
The migration will require a 12-hour service downtime, during which the platform will be inaccessible. FIFA said users will receive advance notice with a confirmed schedule and detailed instructions closer to the migration date.
User Assets and Access Remain Intact
According to FIFA, users who previously purchased digital collectibles on the platform will find their assets preserved on the new infrastructure without requiring immediate action. The organization stated that the core user experience will remain largely unchanged, with users continuing to access their collections through their existing FIFA Collect accounts.
However, to be included in the migration, those who exported their collectibles off the platform must reimport them before May 20. A temporary import window will be opened to accommodate this, after which only manual assistance through customer support will be available—potentially involving additional verification.
Wallet Compatibility and Account Balances Affected
Post-migration, FIFA Collect will no longer support Algorand-based wallets such as Pera and Defly. Instead, users will need to connect using EVM-compatible wallets like MetaMask or any that support WalletConnect.
FIFA also clarified that any USDC balances held on the platform can be used for purchases until the migration occurs. Afterwards, funds will still be withdrawable, but spending will be disabled. No fees will be charged for migrating assets.
Listed collectibles will remain active and transition automatically to the new platform unless users choose to delist them before the migration.
Future Updates and Technical Details Pending
While FIFA emphasized that the new blockchain will enable future upgrades and improved functionality, technical specifics have yet to be disclosed. The organization stated that more detailed information will be provided in the coming weeks, including user guidance for the transition process.
FIFA Collect, launched as the digital collectible arm of world football’s governing body, has continued to evolve its platform amid the growing integration of blockchain in sports media and fan engagement.
