Virgin Voyages, the luxury cruise line founded by Sir Richard Branson, has announced that it will begin accepting Bitcoin payment for its cruise bookings. This move makes the company one of the first major cruise lines to embrace cryptocurrency, broadening payment options for tech-savvy travelers.
The announcement, made today, aligns with Virgin Voyages’ efforts to appeal to a younger, digital-first demographic. Passengers can now use Bitcoin to pay for itineraries such as the Caribbean voyages departing from Miami and the Mediterranean cruises sailing from Barcelona.
Annual Cruise Pass Announced Alongside Bitcoin Integration
Virgin Voyages has also launched its first-ever annual cruise pass, a program offering unlimited voyages throughout 2025. According to local reputable media, the annual pass would cost approximately £94,689 ($120,000). It added that the pacified prices do not include taxes and fees. Meanwhile, users will obtain the pass on a first come, first served basis, lasting from now to March 31, 2025.
The company’s adoption of Bitcoin comes as cryptocurrencies continue gaining mainstream acceptance across industries, particularly in travel and hospitality. Bitcoin’s decentralized nature and global reach make it an appealing payment method for international customers.
